Province of Macerata
Recanati, city of Leopardi's 'native wild village', preserves intact the places dear to the poet: Palazzo Leopardi (birthplace and library with 20,000 volumes), the Hill of Infinity from which he wrote the famous poem, the 'village Saturday square'. Recanati is also the hometown of the tenor Beniamino Gigli, with a dedicated museum. The Villa Colloredo Mels Civic Museum houses masterpieces by Lorenzo Lotto, including the Annunciation.
