    1. Data Controller and Contact Details

Personal data processing relating to Marcheggiando.com is managed by the owner of the Marcheggiando project. For enquiries about personal data processing or to exercise your rights, write to info@marcheggiando.com.

    2. Data we may process

Depending on the features used, we may process registration and authentication data, first and last name, public name, nickname, city, email address, biography, interests and information voluntarily entered in your profile.

We may also process content published in the Community, comments, suggestions for activities or events, uploaded images and related information, expressions of interest in activities, messages between users, and data entered into contact forms or itinerary requests.

The site processes technical data necessary for the service to operate securely, such as browser and device information and data normally recorded in infrastructure providers' logs. If you consent to analytics, data about pages visited, traffic sources, site performance and a random visitor identifier may also be processed.

    3. Purposes and legal bases

Data necessary to create and manage an account, provide Community features, enable publication, interactions, messages and user requests is processed to provide the requested service and take pre-contractual steps requested by the user.

Technical and security data may be processed on the basis of a legitimate interest in protecting the site, preventing misuse, fraud and unauthorised access, and ensuring continuity of service. Processing required to comply with statutory duties is based on the relevant legal obligation.

Non-essential analytics are activated only after user consent. Consent may be refused or withdrawn at any time using “Cookie preferences” in the footer.

    4. Public content and Community

Information you choose to publish in the Community, such as your public name, nickname, biography, proposals, posts, comments and images, may be visible to other users according to the service’s features. Avoid including sensitive data, private contact details or unnecessary information.

Private messages are not published on the site, but are processed technically to enable communication between users and, when necessary, for security, moderation or the protection of rights.

    5. Providers and recipients

Marcheggiando uses technical providers needed to deliver the service. The project code uses Supabase for databases, authentication, storage and application functions; OpenStreetMap resources for maps; Wikimedia Commons when external images are displayed with their source and licence; and, when configured and only after consent, Google Analytics 4 for usage and performance statistics.

Providers may process data on behalf of Marcheggiando or as independent controllers, according to their roles and terms. Any transfers outside the European Economic Area depend on the individual provider's infrastructure and applicable terms and must comply with the safeguards required by applicable legislation.

    6. Retention

Account data is retained while the account remains active and, after deletion, only for as long as strictly necessary to complete its removal, address security needs or comply with legal obligations. Published content is retained while it remains published or until it is removed by the user or Marcheggiando in the circumstances provided for in the Terms.

Requests submitted through forms and communications are retained for as long as necessary to handle them and document any follow-up. Analytics data, where collected, is retained according to the settings of the relevant service and for a period proportionate to the statistical purposes. Cookie preferences are stored locally for a maximum of 180 days.

    7. Cookies, analytics and tracking tools

Optional analytics tools are not enabled before consent. You can accept, reject or change your preferences at any time. For further details, see the Cookie Policy.

    8. Your data protection rights

In the circumstances provided for by the GDPR, you may request access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, portability, objection and withdrawal of consent, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal. You may exercise your rights by writing to info@marcheggiando.com.

You may also lodge a complaint with the Italian Data Protection Authority. Account features provide a way to request deletion of your account and associated data, subject to legal requirements and legitimate protection needs.

    9. Minors

Marcheggiando is not specifically designed for minors. Minors must not create accounts or publish personal data and content unless the legal requirements and necessary authorisations are met.

    10. Safety

We adopt reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect accounts and data, and limit the data collected to what is useful for the service. No online system can be regarded as completely risk-free, however, so avoid publishing sensitive or unnecessary information.

    11. Changes to this notice

This notice may be updated when functionality, providers or processing methods change. The latest update date appears at the beginning of the page.
