Fabriano has been producing high-quality paper since the 13th century, introducing innovations such as the watermark and the multiple-beater hydraulic hammer mill. The Paper and Watermark Museum tells eight centuries of papermaking art, with live demonstrations of handmade production. Since 2013, it has been a UNESCO Creative City for crafts. The medieval old town revolves around Piazza del Comune with the Palazzo del Podestà and the Fontana Sturinalto. The Pinacoteca Civica houses works by Allegretto Nuzi and Gentile da Fabriano.
