    Grottammare, Montalto and Felice Peretti

Felice Peretti, elected Pope Sixtus V in 1585, connects Grottammare, his birthplace, with Montalto, his family and political reference point. His biography links coastal and hillside landscapes often visited separately today. [1][2]

Grottammare's municipality links Santa Lucia church to the site of the Peretti family's modest home. Its dedication recalls his birthday, 13 December 1521. This is architectural commemoration, rather than an unchanged childhood home. [1]

    Power leaves buildings and institutions

Santa Lucia's construction was complex. Domenico Fontana received the initial commission, but work continued after the pope's death through his sister Camilla. Patronage, changes and family intervention belong to the same monument's history. [1]

Montalto's municipal history recalls the administrative district established in 1586. Its Sistine Episcopal Museum connects with documents from the former diocese created by the pope. Buildings and archives reveal different aspects of his local legacy. [2][3]

Two stops to connect at your own pace

Begin in Grottammare's old town and view Santa Lucia externally, then make Montalto a separate stop. Even without every interior, comparing seaside and hilltop settings makes Peretti's personal geography tangible. [1][2]

Check each venue before travelling. Santa Lucia's municipal listing reports temporary closure, so entry is not guaranteed. For Montalto's museum, the municipality directs visitors to contact the venue about hours and prices. [3][4]
