    Monte Catria

    Province of Pesaro and Urbino

Monte Catria (1,701 m) is one of the most imposing peaks of the Umbrian-Marche Apennines. Mentioned by Dante in the XXI canto of Paradise ('infra duo liti d'Italia surgon sassi'), it hosts on its slopes the Hermitage of Fonte Avellana, founded in the 10th century, where San Pier Damiani was prior. In winter it is a small ski resort, in summer a paradise for hikers, with panoramic paths to the summit cross from which you can see the Adriatic Sea.
