Village divided into Castello and Borgo, with important Roman remains of ancient Sentinum and the memory of the famous Battle of the Nations of 295 BC.
Sassoferrato rises near the ancient Roman city of Sentinum, where in 295 BC the Battle of the Nations was fought between Rome and the coalition of Gauls, Samnites, Etruscans and Umbrians. The medieval village was the birthplace of the painter Giovanni Battista Salvi, known as 'Sassoferrato'.
Sassoferrato is the village with a dual soul: the Castle on the hill and the Hamlet in the valley, united by history and divided by geography. The Roman remains of Sentinum remind us that the destiny of Rome and the ancient world was decided here.
