Walled city with the best-preserved walls in the Marche, never conquered in centuries of sieges. Hometown of Santa Maria Goretti and the 'village of fools'.
Founded around the year 1000, Corinaldo was disputed between Guelphs and Ghibellines. Destroyed by the pontifical army led by Galeotto Malatesta, it was rebuilt in 1367 with the mighty walls that still surround it today. In 1517 it resisted the siege of Francesco Maria della Rovere and Pope Leo X elevated it to the rank of City.
Corinaldo has a concentric circle structure: the large wall ring encloses that of the 1367 walls, which in turn has the Pozzo della Polenta at its center. The entire city lives from the warm color of the bricks. It is also the 'town of fools', thanks to the bizarre stories that are part of the cultural heritage of the village.
