The only example in the Marche of an eighteenth-century 'ideal city', with a perfectly square plan designed by the architect Virginio Bracci.
The ancient village of Castel Clementino was rebuilt in 1771 at the behest of Pope Clement XIV based on a design by the architect Virginio Bracci, after a landslide destroyed the original settlement. The new city was built with a perfectly square plan, a rare example of Enlightenment urban planning.
Servigliano is the village of perfect geometry: its streets intersect at right angles, the houses align precisely, the square is the exact center of a square. It is proof that Enlightenment reason can create beauty.
